Galveston's Tall Ship Elissa

Hi there --

I am so fortunate! Amidst all the craziness of having too much on my plate, I still enjoy every single day and believe that life is just great! The latest quilt that I have made is a medallion quilt. Here's a photo of it:

The Tall Ship Elissa

The ship in the center of the medallion is The Elissa -- an 1877 fully restored tall ship that docks nearby at Galveston's wharves. In February, I will be leading two all-day workshops in Galveston at the annual retreat sponsored by Quakertown Quilts (check here if you'd like more information: http://www.quakertownquilts.com/GalvestonQuiltingRetreat.shtml). I particularly like teaching workshops down on the island because a) it's across the street from the beach and I love the beach, b) the gals who come are all a lot of fun, so I have a lot of fun, and c) I can sleep in my own bed, as my house is on the shore on the west end of the island. Even a seasoned road warrior like myself enjoys sleeping in her own bed once in a while! Think about signing up for the retreat -- it will be FUN!

  1. Hi Sue,
I learned about you on TQS -- your design there is so lovely!
I looked you up and fell in love with your 'Ladies of the Sea.' I'm crazy for maritime history, ships and lighthouses...
Does anyone sell just the pattern, or is it only available as a BOM?

    regards,

  2. Hi Gisela --
Quakertown Quilts (www.quakertownquilts.com) sells the patterns for Ladies of the Sea - both kitted (with fabric) and unkitted (pattern only). Right now, they only have the first 5-6 months available online, as they test the patterns for me before releasing the pattern for any block. Each of the monthly patterns has the instructions for TWO ships (months 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10, 11) or ONE border (months 3, 6, 9, and 12); each of the borders is unique, so that the flowers aren't upside-down. And each month's pattern has the history of the ship, and the story behind the matching wreath for that ship - along with lots of LOTS of "tips" so make the sewing easier. In fact, the entire pattern (all 12 months) runs over 180 pages - it is very comprehensive. Okay - I've told you more than you asked, so I'll stop!
